Yellowbird East Community League basketball is a part of the Southwest Basketball Association. The season runs from mid October to the end of March, with registration taking place in September. Information on registration can be found here, and is also published in the community newsletter.
Each team plays approximately 15 scheduled games per season. Depending on the availability of gymnasiums, a weekly practice is also held. Provincial play-offs start in early March for the top 2 teams in each age division.
The age groups are as follows:
Mighty Mites – 7 and 8 years old
Mini – 9 and 10 years old
Bantam – 11 and 12 years old
Midget – 13 and 14 years old
Juvenile – 15 and 16 years old
Junior – 17 and 18 years old
Registration fees cover the cost of games, referees, Basketball Alberta fees, insurance, the use of practice balls and a uniform, as well as individual and team photos. In addition to the registration fees, cheques are required for volunteer and uniform deposits. Parents are asked to volunteer for at least one community event or position to receive a refund for the volunteer cheque. Volunteer sign-up sheets will be available during registration. Uniform deposits will be returned at the end of the season upon return of the player’s uniform. New coaches and volunteers are also very welcome.
